For 50 years, survivors of sexual abuse have built language to fight back — “rape culture,” “me too,” “only yes means yes.” That language shifted courts, law enforcement, and culture.
Survivors of mental health abuse are just beginning that work.
When institutions fail us, they blame us. “Treatment resistant.” “Poor insight.” “Difficult patient.” The character assassination runs rampant and mostly goes unquestioned and unanswered.
I’m calling on survivors, TIC professionals, restorative justice practitioners, and allies to build that language together.
What were you accused of when you were harmed? What have you heard or experienced? What do you wish you’d been able to say back?
Whether you tell me something I have already documented, or something I have not yet thought of – it is good for me to hear what is being used out there.
Message me here; or comment here – let’s build a language of resistance and empowerment together.
