We Wish Flagstaff Medical Center Would Hurry Up and Become Trauma Informed

Flagstaff Medical Center

I (Malene) have a complicated relationship with Flagstaff Medical Center — I am not going to lie. I have seen clinicians there show up with incredible kindness and an amazing capacity for trauma-informed care. I have also seen even more of the opposite — demeaning, dehumanizing attitudes that sometimes cross into unethical, even legally questionable behavior toward patients with psychiatric histories.

I wish they would put some roller skates on, because I believe they are trying to train their staff in trauma-informed care (TIC), and they are going frightfully slow. On this page I will document both the good and the bad that I hear of or experience at Flagstaff Medical Center — including incidents of psychiatric overshadowing and failures in patient safety. But let me be clear: when they fail, they fail spectacularly and inexcusably.
