Last Sunday I started to cry and laugh simultaneously; I was sitting in my truck and completely overloaded. It has continued periodically through this week, and is accompanied sometimes by shaking and intense body aches – and my stomach? Well, I won’t detail it, some of you might not want that image… My poor doggo and kitty…
I have started to realize the depth of rage I have carried since May 2024. I always knew it was anger – but the depth of that fury escaped me until now. Holy hell, that was rage!
My reaction was purely: This wasn’t ok to do to me, it wouldn’t be ok to do to anyone, it most certainly was not ok to do to me! And, that is when anger can become something I refer to as sacred; the capacity to scream loudly and emphatically “this far and no further”. The force that looks for protection of self and others when powerful people or organizations turn abusive.
To me, The Guidance Center are pure cowards who just couldn’t face the fire of their own wrong doing; hiding behind expensive lawyers.
Seeing the current contraction at The Guidance Center brought it on. I won’t declare a “win” or anything else like that – and the more I look at numbers and trajectories, let’s be clear, I did NOT cause The Guidance Center’s contraction. Their own decisions started it, the numbers I see right now are well before I arrived on the field. Their own incompetent decisions started this contraction – I helped it along, and made it public, that is all.
Truth is, even as they are not bringing in as much money – they own ridiculous amounts of buildings within Flagstaff and can remain solvent on that alone. And, that probably is what we are seeing – a more or less deliberate contraction into where they earn the most, and a letting go of services that are less lucrative. This is all about money – so that leadership can continue to hollow out the public funding block for their own advantage. They Make Me Sick!
In this process they are losing continuity of care. They might think they can get it back – I will do my best to prevent that.
I think some of this rage is currently leaving my body. I stand by every single article on this website – The Guidance Center and NARBHA are run by individuals I consider utterly, inexcusably and knowingly corrupt. There are no soft places, and no legitimate concern for the people they claim to serve. Their words are marketing, and nothing genuinely “good” will come from this interlocking network.
Going forward – The Guidance Center has left a giant open hole in local services; just like they have routinely dropped people in formats that are medical abandonment, they right now are busy dropping the community they claimed to serve.
But, I believe some of the almost incandescent rage is leaving my body now. I will continue to document TGC, I remain incredibly worried about their shelter program’s overall safety, and will continue to monitor that. NAU absolutely should expect me to fight to get the documents they act so scared to hand over. I wonder what are in those documents; given how badly they don’t want to hand them over, I suspect some real nastiness. We shall see.
Then, I am going to turn a significant amount of attention to finding a way to bring genuine trauma informed care to Flagstaff. I will look to bring in what The Guidance Center SHOULD have been if they hadn’t spent their training budget on executive flesh. I have some ideas, and hope I can be effectual – everyone deserves better than what TGC hands out.
Then I will work on a format to be able to write, teach and explore conversations about these issues – because while the guidance center is unusually bad – these issues are common within mental health fields – the abuse and weaponized re-traumatization is quite common – and it is time we DEMAND better from the entire industry.
